We are asked many of the same questions about our products. Before
you contact us with a specific question, look and see if it has already
been answered here. |
|
|
Q: ARE CHECK CORP. SEAT HEATERS SAFE? |
Yes, if they are installed correctly in the application they were
designed for. All Check seat heater systems have at least two
levels of temperature control built into the design. (Temperature
Controls include: Self limiting heating elements, Bi-Metal Thermostats
and Electronic Digital Controllers.) |
|
Q: HOW HOT DO THEY GET? |
The heating element's maximum temperatures are normally in the
range of 135 F to 150 F. The maximum surface temperature of the seat
is normally 105 F to 115 F. |
|
Q: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR BEFORE ONE
CAN FEEL THE HEAT? |
Two to Three Minutes. |
|
Q: DO SEAT HEATERS HAVE THERMOSTATS BUILT
INTO THEM? |
Yes seat heaters have either Bi-Metal thermostats or Electronic
Digital Controllers. |
|
Q: ARE MULTI TEMPERATURE SEAT HEATER
SYSTEMS AVAILABLE? |
Yes, Check Corporation has a two and three temperature seat heater
system available as standard products and we can build a control
unit with 10 or more settings if requested with minor programming
changes to our standard control module. |
|
Q: CAN THE TEMPERATURE OF A SEAT HEATER
BE ADJUSTED USING A RHEOSTAT? |
A: No, this is not a
practical method for adjusting the temperature of a 12 volt DC system. |
|
Q: HOW LONG WILL A SEAT HEATER SYSTEM
LAST? |
A: Check Corporation's systems have been subjected to an automotive,
simulated 10 year durability test and passed. They have also
passed the off-road vehicle seat cushion durability test SAE-J1454
and the Heavy Truck, Million Mile Shaker test. |
|
Q: WILL THE HEATERS FATIGUE OR DAMAGE
THE SEAT OVER TIME? |
A: No as the temperatures of the heating elements are much lower than
the maximum interior temperatures of the vehicles they are installed
in. ( Example, Most vehicle interior temperatures exceed over
200 F when parked in the sun) |
|
Q: WHAT IS THE WARRANTY OF THE SYSTEM? |
A: The seat heater normally carries the same warranty as the seat
it is installed in which ranges from 1 to 3 years. |
|
Q: HOW MUCH POWER DOES THE AVERAGE CHECK
SEAT HEATER SYSTEM CONSUME? |
A: 3 to 5 Amps. At 13.8 VDC or 41 to 69 Watts. |
|
Q: CAN YOU USE A SWITCH TO TURN THEM
ON OR OFF? |
A: Yes, a switch is normally used to activate the heaters and to adjust
the temperature settings on multi temperature systems. |
|
Q: WHAT ARE THE CHECK HEATING ELEMENTS
MADE OF? |
A: Automotive Grade resistance heating wire, foam and adhesive to
bond the wire to the foam. Note: all these materials meet the
FMVSS 302 flammability safety standard. |
|
Q: ARE WIRE HEATING ELEMENTS DURABILE? |
A: Yes, they are the most commonly used seat heater elements used
in OE Automotive seating today. The durability is a function
of the strength, flexibility and the proper application of the wire
in the design of the heating element. |
|
Q: CAN CHECK CORP. HEATING ELEMENTS BE
MOLDED INTO THE BASE FOAM OF THE SEAT BACK AND SEAT BOTTOM CUSHIONS? |
A: Yes, Check Corp. has patented an element design that can be molded
into the cushions of the seat when they are manufactured. These
heaters become an integrated part of the seat base foam and this
helps them to be more durable and unnoticeable. |
|
Q: DO THE HEATERS MAKE THE SEAT FOAM
LESS COMFORTABLE? |
A: No, the seat heaters stretch and bend with the foam of the seat
and therefore do not change the comfort or the appearance of the
seat. |
|
Q: WHAT KIND OF TESTING HAVE CHECK SEAT
HEATERS BEEN EXPOSED TO? |
A: Automotive Jounce and Squirm, Automotive Entry and Exit, Automotive
Knee Cycling, Off Road Durability Test SAE#J1454 and Heavy Truck
Million Mile Shaker test and FMVSS 302 flammability test. |
|
Q: HOW MUCH DO SEAT HEATER SYSTEMS COST? |
A: $30 to $120 per seat depending on the size of the heating elements,
switch design, harness lengths and the features of the system. |
|
Q: WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF MOST FAILURES? |
A: Improper installation of the seat heater system into the seat. |
|
Q: HOW LONG HAS CHECK BEEN MANUFACTURING
SEAT HEATERS? |
A: Since October of 1993. |
|
Q: DOES CHECK MAKE SEAT HEATERS FOR AUTOMOTIVE
OE MANUFACTURERS? |
A: Yes, but our focus is on Industrial, Off Road, RV's, Trucks, Motorcycles,
Boats & Automotive Aftermarket Seats. |
